Achievements

Through her passion for public service and her unwavering commitment to creating a better tomorrow for all, Kavita Khanna has made a significant impact on the lives of countless people. In her diverse endeavors, she has championed numerous initiatives involving transformative ideas that aim to reshape governance and public service, inspire outcomes-oriented change, and address the country’s most pressing issues towards a healthy, educated, thriving, spiritual, more equitable society.

1998-2017Campaigned extensively in Gurdaspur constituency in the 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014, 2017, and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Worked in supportive role to husband, Vinod Khanna on all the developmental issues he pursued
2005-16Work to eliminate Kala Azar, (Visceral Leishmaniasis), and other Neglected Tropical Diseases from India, and globally—Dengue, Snake bites, Rabies
2006-12Director, “SOAK, Mumbai in an Estuary”, a study to present a viable solution to flooding in Mumbai by holistically examining water management, (including replenishing freshwater tables), in the city, with a particular emphasis on Mumbai’s landscape. Study presented as a major exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Art, May-December 2009
2007Principal Co-ordinator, and member of the team which conceptualised UTSAV, a youth campaign to Clean Inside, Clean Outside, first held in partnership with the World Alliance for Youth Empowerment, (WAYE), the state govt. of Maharashtra and the BMC. Subsequently, 12 UTSAVs have been held by WAYE, with 35,000 youth all over India.
2003-06Member of the team which conceptualised and founded the Programme, Corporate Culture and Spirituality (CCS), under the aegis of the International Association of Human Values. This programme looks at how we can address the intangible drivers in a business and improve on the best business practices by addressing the spirit of an organisation. From 2006, CCS, now World Forum for Ethics in Business, is held with the Europe India Chamber of Commerce in the European Parliament.
2000-04Worked with PM Vajpayee ji’s office, (point person Mr. Sudheendra Kulkarni, OSD to PM), on Labour Law reform to generate employment by having policies that encourage low skill labour-intensive growth rather than capital-intensive growth, with the manufacturing sector as an engine of economic growth. Appointed Special Consultant to the Second National Labour Law Commission. Worked extensively with CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, IMC, national Trade Unions, Central and State Govts, and Members of Parliament to build a consensus on the issue.
1998-03Financial and Systemic turnaround of Bharat Radiators Industries Ltd, with micro level hands on experience of the need to amend specific national and state laws to allow free movement of resources from non-productive to productive areas in the post 2000 WTO scenario, (where quantitative trade restrictions were removed). This led to work and proposals at a macro level to facilitate increase in GDP by using manufacturing as the engine of growth.
1996Developed the concept of the “Multimedia Multiplier” advertising scheme for product placement in films, allowing cross-advertising through the print, outdoor, audio, audio-visual, electronic and film media, by being part of a sequence in a film. This has now become an industry standard for product placement in films.
1995Conceptualised and worked for recognition of the Film industry as an “industry”, with particular reference to bringing the film industry within the banking system for the purposes of project finance. Made a presentation on the issue to the then PM, Shri Narasimha Rao ji with husband Vinod Khanna which led to a fund of Rs 500 crore being set up for film finance.
